Our new staff uniforms

In 2023 a small group of interested staff reviewed the school’s non-compulsory staff uniform registration which was last updated in 2003. After 20 years, we thought this a long overdue task.

With the growth of our school and number of employees, this meant that we were able to offer more colour allowance selections to staff.

Colours chosen were based around our school colours of navy and maroon and general office attire colours of black, grey, white and beige for various tops or bottom garment styles.

Interest in a previous Aboriginal designed shirt, together with our near equal ratio of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal school population were taken into consideration, and although the structure of the registration did not seem to allow for an Aboriginal design, after contacting the agency, we were informed we could utilise one of the colours to be selected as an Aboriginal design.

To allow for a brighter Aboriginal concept, lighter and darker shades of our main colours were selected to be incorporated.

Some time was spent seeking a South Australian Aboriginal design company achieving great work. We engaged the services of Ochre Dawn, who are based in Adelaide and were also able to follow through and produce the shirts for us.

An artwork brief was completed using information from a range of questions and surveys that were posed to staff.

OUR STORY WAS FORMED:

Nestled between a waterway and mountain range, Port Augusta Secondary School is located in the heart of the city, a meeting place at the crossroads of Australia, many cultures, one community, coming and working together as a team for sharing and exchanging knowledge. A place for growth and transformation, fostering a love of learning and building positive connections.

The large meeting place represents Pot Augusta Secondary School, nestled between a waterway and mountain range which is shown by the blue and brown patterned areas; Port Augusta Secondary School is located in the heart of the city. The smaller meeting places above show many cultures, people, families, coming and working together as a team for sharing and exchanging knowledge. The pathway going through the centre represents the learning journey the students, teachers and community go on (with big and little footprints walking side by side).

A majority of staff then selected navy as the base colour of the shirt for the design as pictured:

Time was taken trying to get a truer navy and at the end of term 2 this year, our shirts finally arrived. They are part of a range of choices, so you will see some staff wearing styles of plain navy, maroon, black, grey, white or our new Aboriginal design. It is all about personal choice and selecting styles which best suit the wearer and everyday needs for all zones of the school.

Other staff opt to wear non-branded garments.
